Explore the island
Choose a region before you choose a route.
Sri Lanka rewards a focused itinerary. Pick a few places you want to understand, then allow room for travel, weather and unplanned discoveries. This is a starting guide to the island’s main travel regions.

How to narrow your shortlist
For a short trip, choose two or three bases. If history is your priority, add time in the Cultural Triangle. If you want walking and scenery, reserve more time for the hills. For a beach-led holiday, decide on the coast after checking seasonal conditions. The region labels here are travel groupings, not administrative boundaries.
Before booking, compare the seasonal guide and transport guide. Do not assume two nearby points on a map will be a quick transfer.
